    Democrat New York: Assessing Crime Trends, Immigration Policies, and Fiscal Challenges Under Mayor Adams

    Ever since calling out the Biden Admin, Mayor Adams has been in the dog house with the Left. He is trying hard to get back into their Socialist graces

    Under the administration of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, there has been a notable decrease in crime compared to the peaks observed in 2020 and 2021. Or so they say. The truth is, most retailers no longer report theft, as it drives up their insurance costs and arrests are rarely made. So the illusion of crime decreasing is a direct effect. However, according to Nicole Gelinas, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, these so-called technical crime stat improvements are viewed as ‘fragile gains.’ Gelinas, a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and author, expressed her assessment at the Gertrude and Morrison Parker West Side Republican Club on January 9, emphasizing the need for Mayor Adams to hold the state legislature and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg accountable for their alleged choice not to prosecute certain nonviolent and violent crimes.

    At the West Side GOP Club’s annual State of the City event held at the Jewish Center on West 86 Street in Manhattan, Gelinas attributed the rise in crime over the past four-and-a-half years to legislative changes made in the last quarter of 2019, particularly the bail reform and discovery reform enacted by the state legislature and signed into law by then-Governor Cuomo.

    Despite Mayor Adams being sworn into office on January 1, 2022, city officials and the New York Police Department (NYPD) presented a different perspective on the crime rate. According to NYPD data, shootings decreased by 24.7%, dropping from 1,294 in 2022 to 974 in 2023 citywide. Additionally, arrests of criminal suspects increased by 19.5%, from 189,781 in 2022 to 226,872 in 2023 across all crime categories. CRIME: America’s most violent and dangerous cities are run by Democrats and in most cases Soros-backed District Attorneys who refuse to prosecute minorities for criminal activity. The result? Crime statistics based on convictions show crime is down – Americans aren’t fooled.

    Police Commissioner Edward A. Caban credited the NYPD’s focus on targeting those carrying illegal guns for the significant reductions in violent crime. Gelinas, however, criticized Mayor Adams for his handling of the illegal immigration crisis, asserting that it has led to an increase in disorder and low-level crime, with some instances escalating to higher-level offenses. ‘Guns don’t commit violence — criminals do. Unfortunately, Biden and the Democrats don’t go after violent criminals — they let them go free. Especially if they’re illegals.     Gelinas highlighted the mayor’s approach to the 40-year-old right to shelter, arguing that it is not constitutionally mandated and estimating that housing illegal immigrants in city-funded shelters would cost a projected $4 billion annually, doubling the pre-existing homeless population. ‘George Soros created the HIGHEST crime rates in many Democrat-controlled cities!     The blame game extends to U.S. President Joe Biden’s immigration policies, with Councilwoman Inna Vernikov’s office attributing the increase in crime to the federal government’s decision to allow work permits for individuals from Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras with relatives who are U.S. citizens or green card holders.

    Democrats are lying propagandists. They claim crime is down when what’s down is crime reporting. Everyone knows it’s pointless to report crimes in Democrat-run cities because nothing will be done, but crime still very much exists — worse than before.

    City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams threatened to sue Mayor Adams’ administration for not providing more housing vouchers without going through the shelter system, but the mayor expressed fiscal concerns. Instead, emergency rules were issued to expand access to city-funded rental assistance and expedite connections to permanent housing.

    Gelinas supports Mayor Adams’ reluctance to provide housing vouchers without a shelter system stay, citing excessive city spending. However, there is ongoing disagreement within the city government about the allocation of housing resources.

    Another controversial topic is the introduction of congestion pricing for drivers entering Manhattan, approved by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) board to increase revenue. Gelinas, while theoretically supporting the commuter tax, questions the timing, suggesting it might deter people from entering the city, especially considering the lingering impact of COVID-19.  The Democrats never met a tax they didn’t like. Anything that robs citizens of even more money so they can redistribute those funds to illegals, is perfectly fine to Democrats not only in New York City, but all over America.

    State Assemblywoman Jaime Williams, a Democrat representing District 59, opposes the congestion pricing, introducing AB 808413 to enact an exemption benefiting the city’s transit-desert areas. Williams argues that her residential district heavily relies on cars and should not bear an additional tax burden.

    To Sum it all up: while Mayor Adams’ administration has shown some progress in reducing crime, at least in terms of total numbers, how the crime rate has decreased is most worrisome to the people of the city, who see crime daily now, but no one wants to report it. Criminals have free reign and the only people who will actually be prosecuted by Soros prosecutors, are the people who defend themselves. What this means is GET OUT OF NYC and all Democrat controlled cities. Your life is in danger.
